Startup spawning: background and formative processes

Purpose This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of entrepreneurial spawning in new context software startups, revisiting theory and identifying patterns within emergence startups/spin-offs Brazil. Design/methodology/approach A two cases startups recognized for generating several spin-offs founded by former employees. The authors based data collection on following triangulation: 11 in-depth interviews, systematic analysis 33 resumes from entrepreneurs spawned firms document analysis. Findings Six skills developed were identified: (1) structuring a company, (2) people management, (3) strategic/operational planning, (4) commercial/sales, (5) product development, (6) behavioral traits. In addition, points contradiction concerning literature found, such as absence location effect, different professional experiences local agents support startups. Research limitations/implications present covers only which requires caution discretion extrapolating other contexts. Practical implications understanding may reflect in: university programs focused internships corporate training design public policies spawning. Originality/value stands out its access high-impact Brazil, addition bringing perspective specificities high-growth companies.
